First Impressions

Upon viewing the sites (which can be found by clicking on the "List of Relevant Links" button,) I gathered a very prominent first impression of Plainview, Texas. Some of the information I considered was how the city was founded, the historic buildings it contains (of which there are many), the community organizations, churches, and other groups that tie the community together, educational facilities, medical facilities, and the industry that Plainview is known for.
The city seems to be very interconnected in several ways. It seems to be very community oriented, focusing on bettering and maintaining the city, quality of life, etc. Among its organizations, the YMCA webpage stood out most in that it states the the YMCA of Plainview collaborates with a large list of other organizations including Wayland Baptist University, the City of Plainview, Covenant Hospital, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other groups to better serve the community. The interconnectivity of these organizations most likely reflects the interconnectivity of the residents of Plainview.
Plainview also seems very in touch with it's industrial side with its agressive and supportive business climate, low taxes, inexpensive energy and utility rates, and enviable quality of living.

Upon searching the internet for images of Plainview, I noticed that not many come up that are not of historic buildings. This shows that Plainview considers its historic buildings to be very important as a part of the culture of the city. (See First Impression Images post). Listed on the National Register of Historic Places is the Plainview Commercial Historic District and the Plainview site (a Native American archaeological site located nearby). Another historically important building in Plainview that caught my attention is the Fair Theatre which had been opened in 1925 as a silent movie house. It later was part of a community-wide restoration effort, another emphasis on the importance of community in this city.
