Informational Sites

http://www.plainviewtx.org/
Official Plainview site.  This site is very well organized and easy to navigate around.  The tabs at the top  (along the green bar) divide the site into different areas for viewers, such as a section devoted to people who live there, business information for Plainview, visitor information, government information, departmental information, and a section devoted to services.  Each tab has a drop down list of clearly labeled links that lead to descriptions, sometimes with images, and contact information. The middle of the main page displays links to online bill pay for current residences and interactive maps.  The center of this section displays a creative slideshow of current images from Plainview. The right side displays contact information and a basic map.  The bottom section contains commonly searched links, Plainview headlines, and a save the date list of upcoming events.

MyPlainview is a local news site that contains all your normal news and informational links.  This page has a series of clearly labeled tabs that link to an appropriate section of the site.  Breaking news stories take up the top third of the page, with small columns for sports and local news below.  The middle section of the page contains the webcast and a few other smaller sections, like the first third of the website.  The bottom part of the main page has a series of community links that are extremely useful and informational to those that live there, those that are looking to live there, and those that are just visiting.  The page is a little cluttered, but serves its purpose well as a news site.

The Hale County website is a very well organized site.  It has a series of tabs across the top of the page with direct links to bids, notices, general information, a current jail roster, current road conditions, weather, and a county  phone list.  Below this is a scrolling bar with up to date information.  The left and right sides of the page contain links that are categorized by topic.  The left side contains the categories labeled Hale Co Counties, Commissioners, and District Offices.  The right side contains categories labeled County Offices, Financial, External Links, and School Districts.  The center of the page has "Quick Links" which are basically the links that people are searching for most often, which makes this site very easy to navigate. There is also a link in large lettering for those who have questions that have not been answered by the site itself.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Plainview-Texas.html
The site has an extensive detailed listing of the city data for Plainview.  The page begins with the current weather and a series of maps organized by tabs.    The listing starts below this with population data. Underneath that is the housing data with an area where one can type in either information to see the value of their home (for those that live in Plainview) OR search for recent home sales and information (for people seeking to move to Plainview).  Below this is some more population information.  Then below that there is information for buildings with new construction.   Then follows income data. Underneath that is a detailed crime analysis chart comparing several years' worth of information.  Below that is information about the number of historical sites.  Below that is a population change graph.  The average climate data is also listed on this site.  Locations and information about medical facilities, educational facilities, airports, banks, hotels, libraries, and churches are also listed here.  The site has more information below that.  It is a very extensive collection of data that can be very useful, however, the site needs to be better organized as it goes back and forth between different categories and is difficult to search for specific information.
