The numerous parks are representative of the strong community bonds in Plainview, Texas.
Some of the many amenities shared by the community are baseball fields, basketball courts, a disc golf course, a golf driving range, hike and bike trails, multipurpose courts, walking tracks, pavilions, playgrounds, soccer fields, softball fields, a tree nursery, and a beautiful waterfall.

  • The Centennial Circle of Honor
    • Honors Plainview's leaders of the past 100 years and inspires leaders of the next 100 years
    • The city of Plainview was incorporated in 1907 and celebrated its grand centennial in 2007
    • The purpose of this circle of honor is to leave a legacy of hard work and dedication for future generations that honors friends, loved ones, and business associates who have made a positive impact on the city.

  • Museum of the Llano Estacado

    • This museum opened in 1976  in conjunction with the U.S. Bicentennial celebration.  It is housed in the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Regional Heritage center which is located on the north side of the Wayland Baptist University Campus
    • Its contents are laid out in chronological order to tell the regional history of the area known as the Llano Estacado
    • Exhibits begin with the formation of the region during the ice age and continue through early irrigation of the 1930s.  Popular exhibits include a tepee, an early town site, a mounted buffalo soldier, a wooden windmill, and home exhibits from the Victorian Era.

    • The newest exhibits include a Hall of Fame with notable personalities from Hale county that hilight the lives of local heroes.
    • The museum has free admission and is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 5pm, Fridays from 8am to 4 pm and Weekends (April - November) 1pm - 5pm

  • Plainview Point Monument



Plainview Point Monument

    • The Plainview Point Monument is a national historical marker that recognizes the area near the Runningwater Draw where distinctive spearpoints were discovered and associated with the fossilized remains of about 100 extinct bison.
    • These unique spearpoints, called Plainview points, have been used to name an entire culture.
    • The culture and these points are believed to have existed about 8,000 years ago.
    • Plainview youth and members of the local boyscout troop made the discovery while on an outing in 1941.  
    • Located near 300 Joliet Street

  • Fair Theatre
    • Fair Theatre offers a venue for plays, musicals, symphonic performances, and a place to hold meetings and seminars.
    • This 1920s theatre was restored to its original state as a part of a community-wide restoration effort.  This is another display of how tightly knit this community is.

    • It reopened in 1999
    • The amenities include a rare twin-split balcony and a rich color scheme.  It seats 421 on the main floor and another 55 in each balcony.  The front rooms include a spacious lobby, a hospitality/reception room and a concession room with kitchenette.  The downstairs area below the stage includes a kitchen-bar, private bathroom and dressing rooms.  
    • It is located within convenient walking distance of restaurants, antique shops and other shops.

  • Main Street - Downtown Plainview
    • Main Street/CVB is two separate departments with similar purposes. Their efforts include strengthening businesses in the historic business district (as well as recruiting new ones), molding the historic district into a destination for shopping, entertainment and leisure, and providing a vibrant events venue.
